Gallantmon

Gallantmon is a Virus-attribute, Mega-level Holy Knight Digimon and a member of the Royal Knights, best known as the Biomerge form of Takato Matsuki and Guilmon in Digimon Tamers. In Japan he is called Dukemon. His upgrades, Crimson Mode and the X-Antibody form, are some of the most searched knights in the franchise.
Who is Gallantmon

Gallantmon is the knight Guilmon becomes when he fuses completely with his partner. In Digimon Tamers, Takato and Guilmon don’t simply digivolve. They Biomerge, so the boy is physically inside the Digimon. You see Gallantmon in shining white armor with red trim. He carries the lance Gram and the shield Aegis, and the Digital Hazard symbol is printed right on the shield.
That symbol is the whole point of his story. Guilmon carries a dangerous power, and when Takato loses control, it turns him into the destructive Megidramon. Gallantmon is the answer to that: the same raw power, finally channeled into a protector. Outside Tamers, he is one of the Royal Knights, the elite order of Holy Knight Digimon that serves the Digital World’s network.
Evolution line
Gallantmon’s line changes depending on where you meet him. The anime, the Digimon Story games and the card game each handle it differently.
Anime (Digimon Tamers)
| From | To | How |
|---|---|---|
| Gigimon (In-Training) | Guilmon (Rookie) | Natural digivolution |
| Guilmon (Rookie) | Growlmon (Champion) | Digivolution |
| Growlmon (Champion) | WarGrowlmon (Ultimate) | Digivolution |
| WarGrowlmon (Ultimate) | Megidramon (Mega) | Takato’s rage triggers the Digital Hazard |
| Guilmon + Takato | Gallantmon (Mega) | Biomerge |
| Gallantmon (Mega) | Gallantmon Crimson Mode | Power-up during the D-Reaper arc |
Digimon Story games
Gallantmon’s main route is the same in Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth, Hacker’s Memory and Digimon Story Time Stranger. The Guilmon line runs straight up into the knight.
| From | To | Conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Guilmon (Rookie) | Growlmon (Champion) | Requirements listed on the in-game evolution screen |
| Growlmon (Champion) | WarGrowlmon (Ultimate) | Requirements listed on the in-game evolution screen |
| WarGrowlmon (Ultimate) | Gallantmon (Mega) | Requirements listed on the in-game evolution screen |
Tamer tip
Requirements in the Story games are built around stats and level thresholds, so check the evolution screen before you grind. A WarGrowlmon that misses a single stat won’t show Gallantmon as available.
For the full branching trees across every line, our Digimon evolution chart lays out the other routes into and out of the Guilmon family.
Digimon Card Game
| From | To | Conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Lv.3 Guilmon | Lv.4 Growlmon | Printed digivolve cost on the card |
| Lv.4 Growlmon | Lv.5 WarGrowlmon | Printed digivolve cost on the card |
| Lv.5 WarGrowlmon | Lv.6 Gallantmon | Printed digivolve cost on the card |
The Guilmon line is red in the card game, so Gallantmon fits naturally into red decks. Always read each printing’s digivolve condition, because different Gallantmon cards accept different Level 5 bases.
Signature attacks
Gallantmon fights like a jousting knight. Shield bashes, lance strikes and holy energy blasts are his whole kit.
- Lightning Joust (Royal Saber): A thrust of Gram that fires a bolt of holy lightning. This is his go-to finisher in the English dub of Tamers.
- Shield of the Just (Final Elysion): He charges Aegis and launches a blast of light from the shield. It is the move most fans picture when they think of Gallantmon.
Crimson Mode trades the lance and shield for two new weapons, the sword Blutgang and the lance Gungnir. He also grows wings of light. His Japanese signature move in that form is Quo Vadis, which sends the target out of the network entirely.
Variants
Gallantmon Crimson Mode (CM)
Crimson Mode is the form Gallantmon takes against the D-Reaper in Tamers. The white armor turns red and gold, and the wings let him fight in the sky. If you play the Digimon Story games, Gallantmon CM is the endgame upgrade Guilmon fans chase.
Gallantmon X (X-Antibody)
Gallantmon X, or Dukemon X-Antibody, is the form he takes when infected with the X-Antibody. The heavier armor and redesigned silhouette came out of the X-Antibody wave of the mid-2000s. He keeps the knight-and-lance identity, with a more aggressive look.
MedievalGallantmon
MedievalGallantmon (MedievalDukemon) is a separate Mega with an older, more rugged knight design. Think of him as a cousin to the main form rather than an upgrade. He has his own evolution data, so don’t expect him on the standard Guilmon path.

Trivia
- In Tamers, Guilmon was drawn by Takato in a notebook before he came to life, so Gallantmon is technically a child’s sketch grown into a Royal Knight.
- “Dukemon” comes from the noble title “Duke.” The English name “Gallantmon” swaps nobility for chivalry.
- The Hazard symbol on Aegis is the same mark that appears on Guilmon’s chest, a reminder that the knight and Megidramon come from the same power.
- Unlike most Tamers partners, Gallantmon is a Royal Knight in the wider franchise. That makes him one of the few anime partners who belongs to an established elite group.
FAQ
Are Dukemon and Gallantmon the same?
Yes. Dukemon is the original Japanese name and Gallantmon is the English localization. Dukemon Crimson Mode becomes Gallantmon Crimson Mode, and Dukemon X becomes Gallantmon X.
Is Gallantmon stronger than WarGreymon?
Both are Mega-level Digimon, but Gallantmon is a Royal Knight, and the franchise treats the Royal Knights as an elite tier above standard Megas. Base Gallantmon is a fair fight for WarGreymon. Crimson Mode outclasses him.
What type of Digimon is Gallantmon?
Gallantmon is a Holy Knight type with the Virus attribute at Mega level. That Virus attribute surprises many fans, given his heroic look. It ties back to Guilmon’s Digital Hazard origins.
How powerful is Gallantmon?
He is among the strongest partner Digimon in Tamers. He protects the real world from the D-Reaper and, in Crimson Mode, gains a move that can erase opponents from the network. In the Digimon Story games he remains a top-tier Mega, and his Crimson Mode is one of the strongest Guilmon-line forms you can raise.
