Gomamon
Gomamon is a Rookie-level, Vaccine attribute Sea Animal Digimon, best known as Joe Kido’s (Jou Kido) partner in Digimon Adventure. This laid-back little seal digivolves into Ikkakumon and Zudomon, and in Digimon Adventure (2020) it reaches Mega as Vikemon. Below we cover its evolution line across the anime, the Digimon Story games and the card game, plus its attacks and appearances.
Who is Gomamon
Gomamon looks like a white seal pup with a shock of orange-red hair, purple markings and small clawed paws. Its personality is the opposite of its partner’s. Joe worries about everything and follows every rule, while Gomamon jokes, relaxes and teases him. That pairing is the emotional core of their arc in Digimon Adventure. Joe learns to act with courage, and Gomamon backs him the whole way.
In the original Japanese version, Gomamon is voiced by Junko Takeuchi, who returned for the 2020 reboot. Takeuchi is also famous as the voice of Naruto Uzumaki. Gomamon is easy to spot in battle because it rarely fights alone. Its main Rookie move summons schools of fish to swarm the enemy.
Evolution line
Gomamon’s lines differ by medium, so we have split them out below.
Anime
| From | To | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Bukamon (Pukamon), In-Training | Gomamon, Rookie | Joe’s partner first appears as Bukamon in Digimon Adventure (1999) |
| Gomamon, Rookie | Ikkakumon, Champion | Standard digivolution in Adventure and the 2020 reboot |
| Ikkakumon, Champion | Zudomon, Ultimate | Unlocked through Joe’s Crest of Reliability in Adventure |
| Zudomon, Ultimate | Vikemon, Mega | Shown in Digimon Adventure (2020) |
Digimon Story games
In Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth, Hacker’s Memory and Digimon Story Time Stranger, Gomamon follows its anime path at its core. Each game also adds branches.
| From | To | Games |
|---|---|---|
| Bukamon | Gomamon | Cyber Sleuth, Time Stranger |
| Gomamon | Ikkakumon | Cyber Sleuth, Time Stranger |
| Ikkakumon | Zudomon | Cyber Sleuth, Time Stranger |
Exact requirements change between games. Cyber Sleuth gates digivolutions behind level, stats, ABI and CAM thresholds. Time Stranger uses stat targets alongside your Agent Rank. Both games show the precise numbers on the Digivolution screen, so check there before you grind.
Tamer tip
In the Digimon Story games, de-digivolving Gomamon back to Bukamon and climbing the line again raises its ABI cap. That makes later Mega requirements far easier to hit.
Card game
In the Digimon Card Game (2020), the Gomamon family plays in blue, the color built around the water line from the Adventure crew.
| Level | Digimon | Color |
|---|---|---|
| In-Training | Bukamon | Blue |
| Rookie | Gomamon | Blue |
| Champion | Ikkakumon | Blue |
| Ultimate | Zudomon | Blue |
| Mega | Vikemon | Blue |
