MedievalGallantmon

MedievalGallantmon Digimon file

MedievalGallantmon (MedievalDukemon in Japan) is a Mega-level variant of Gallantmon, the Holy Knight that Takato and Guilmon became in Digimon Tamers. It is a modern addition to the franchise, and it shows up mainly in the Digimon Card Game’s Chain of Liberation booster and in Digimon Story Time Stranger. This profile covers what it is, how it connects to the Guilmon line, where to find it, and which details depend on the medium.

A quick note on how this page works: some details about MedievalGallantmon change from source to source, or are best checked directly in the game or on the card. Where we could not confirm an exact value, we say so and leave it out. A wrong attribute or a made-up evolution requirement can cost you hours of grinding in a Digimon Story game, and we would rather you didn’t lose that time.

Who is MedievalGallantmon

Start with the name. Gallantmon’s Japanese name is Dukemon, so the Japanese release calls this variant MedievalDukemon. English products, including the Bandai English card game and the English release of Digimon Story Time Stranger, call it MedievalGallantmon. If you see both names on fan sites, they refer to the same Digimon.

The “Medieval” prefix describes the concept. Gallantmon was already a knight, with a lance, a shield, and the code of a Royal Knight. MedievalGallantmon takes that identity and leans into the old-world, fantasy-knight version of it: heavier armor, a more classical warrior look, and the feel of a hero from a sword-and-sorcery epic. The original Gallantmon, which debuted in 2001, is a red-and-white armored knight with a lance and shield. MedievalGallantmon feels like an ancient legend.

It sits in a long tradition of Gallantmon alternates. Most Digimon get one or two variants at most, but Gallantmon has had several:

Digimon Japanese name Level Notes
Gallantmon Dukemon Mega Holy Knight, Virus attribute, member of the Royal Knights
Gallantmon Crimson Mode Dukemon Crimson Mode Mega The winged form from Digimon Tamers
ChaosGallantmon ChaosDukemon Mega Dark, corrupted counterpart
Gallantmon X Dukemon X Mega X-Antibody version from the X-Evolution era
MedievalGallantmon MedievalDukemon Mega Medieval fantasy reimagining

Each variant changes Gallantmon’s meaning a little. Crimson Mode is about the bond between Tamer and partner at its peak. ChaosGallantmon is what happens when that power goes wrong. Gallantmon X is the survivor of the X Program. MedievalGallantmon is the most “aesthetic” of the group: it puts Gallantmon in a fantasy setting rather than giving it a new piece of anime story.

A quick refresher on levels

If you are coming from Japanese sources, the level names can trip you up. Here is how they line up:

English level Japanese level Where MedievalGallantmon sits
In-Training Baby II
Rookie Child
Champion Adult
Ultimate Perfect
Mega Ultimate Here

So when a Japanese page lists MedievalDukemon as “Ultimate,” it means the same thing as the English “Mega.” Both put it at the top of the standard evolution ladder.

Evolution line

This is the section where the medium matters most. MedievalGallantmon does not have one fixed evolution line across the franchise. The card game, the Digimon Story games, and the original Guilmon line from the anime are three different things, so read the table carefully.

Medium Evolves from Evolves into Notes
Digimon Tamers anime Not featured Not featured MedievalGallantmon does not appear in any anime series
Digimon Card Game Level 5 Digimon that meet the card’s digivolve condition None (top level) Check the digivolution condition printed on the card

Classic Guilmon line (reference) WarGrowlmon (to Gallantmon) Gallantmon Crimson Mode This is Gallantmon’s line, not MedievalGallantmon’s

The Guilmon line it descends from

Every Gallantmon variant traces back to the line from Digimon Tamers (2001), so it helps to know it well. In the anime, Takato Matsuki’s partner Guilmon evolves through these stages:

Level Digimon Japanese name
In-Training Gigimon Gigimon
Rookie Guilmon Guilmon
Champion Growlmon Growmon
Ultimate WarGrowlmon MegaloGrowmon
Mega Gallantmon Dukemon

In the anime, Gallantmon is reached through Biomerge Digivolution, with Takato and Guilmon merging into one being. That is the emotional core of the Gallantmon name, and it is why fans get attached to every variant that carries it. If you want to see where this line sits next to the other famous partner lines, our “digimon evolution chart” puts it beside Agumon, Gabumon and the rest.

Planning the evolution in Time Stranger

Digimon Story Time Stranger handles evolution the way recent Digimon Story games do. Each Digimon has a list of possible evolutions, and each target lists its own conditions on the evolution screen. You can also de-digivolve, which is what makes long routes to a specific Mega practical.

The approach that always works:

How to plan a route to MedievalGallantmon in Time Stranger

  1. Open the Field Guide entry for MedievalGallantmon.
  2. Note which Ultimate-level Digimon evolve into it.
  3. Check the stat and other conditions listed for that evolution.
  4. Work backwards to a Rookie or Champion you already own.
  5. Train, then evolve step by step, de-digivolving if a branch is wrong.

We don’t print exact stat thresholds or pre-evolutions here because we could not verify them against the game, and some fan pages list conflicting numbers. The game’s own evolution screen is the authority, and it updates as you unlock more of the Field Guide.

Tamer tip

In Digimon Story games, de-digivolving is not wasted effort. A Digimon keeps part of its growth when it steps back down, so cycling through extra evolutions on the way to a Mega like MedievalGallantmon often leaves you with a stronger final form than a straight line.

For the bigger picture of how evolution, Agent skills and team building fit together in this entry, see our “digimon story time stranger” overview. If you are still learning the system, our guide on how to “evolve agumon digimon story” walks through a full route step by step, and the same logic applies to any Mega.

Signature attacks

This is where honesty matters more than a long list. MedievalGallantmon’s named moves depend on the medium:

  • In Digimon Story Time Stranger, it has a signature skill plus learnable skills, and the game shows each skill’s element, power and targets in the skill menu. Check the Field Guide or the Digimon’s own skill list for the exact names and what each one does.
  • In the Digimon Card Game, it has no “attacks” in the anime sense. Its power comes from the card’s DP, its effects and its digivolution condition, all printed on the card.

What we can say with confidence is which attacks define the Gallantmon name, because MedievalGallantmon is built on that legacy. These come from Digimon Tamers:

Attack (English dub) Japanese name What it is
Lightning Joust Royal Saber Gallantmon fires a bolt of holy lightning from its lance, Gram
Shield of the Just Final Elysion A blast of energy fired from its shield, Aegis

Gram (the lance) and Aegis (the shield) are central to Gallantmon’s design, and they explain why every variant is drawn as a knight with a lance and shield. If you know what Lightning Joust and Shield of the Just look like, you know what kind of fighter MedievalGallantmon is meant to be: a holy warrior who wins with its weapons, not with magic tricks.

We won’t list “MedievalGallantmon’s attacks” with made-up names. If a page gives you a full move list with no source, treat it with caution.

Appearances

MedievalGallantmon is a recent Digimon, so its list of appearances is short. Here is where you can find it.

Digimon Card Game

MedievalGallantmon appears in Chain of Liberation, a Digimon Card Game booster tied to the Digimon Liberator project. Digimon Liberator is Bandai’s story project built around the card game, and it introduced new characters and new takes on classic Digimon. MedievalGallantmon fits that approach: a familiar hero redesigned for a new setting.

For a card game player, a few things matter:

  • As a Mega, it is a top-level card. Check its printed digivolution condition to see which Level 5 cards it can come from.
  • Its value in a deck comes from its effect text and how it works with other Gallantmon-line and Holy Knight cards in the same set.
  • Card numbers and exact effects should be read straight from the official card list or the physical card. Errata and rulings can change how a card plays.

When Chain of Liberation came out, card game players argued online about whether MedievalGallantmon was too strong for the format. That is community opinion, not an official ruling, and competitive standings change with every new set and banlist. If you are building around it, check the current official banned and restricted list before a tournament.

Digimon Story Time Stranger

Digimon Story Time Stranger, Bandai Namco’s 2025 entry in the Digimon Story series, includes MedievalGallantmon in its roster. That makes it one of the newer Digimon you can actually raise, train and take into battle, rather than just collect on cardboard.

In Time Stranger, every Digimon has:

  • An attribute from the Vaccine, Data, Virus and Free set, which decides type advantage in battle.
  • Base stats that set its growth: HP, SP, Attack, Defense, Intelligence, Spirit and Speed.
  • A personality, which affects growth and links to your Agent skill trees.
  • A set of resistances and weaknesses to elements.

All of these show up in the game’s info screens. For MedievalGallantmon specifically, read its resistances there before you bring it into a boss fight. Time Stranger’s bosses punish teams that stack the same weakness.

The attribute triangle works as it has in recent Digimon Story games:

Attribute Strong against Weak against
Vaccine Virus Data
Data Vaccine Virus
Virus Data Vaccine
Free Neutral Neutral

Once you see MedievalGallantmon’s attribute in the Field Guide, this table tells you which enemies it should hit and which it should avoid. For the full roster, our “time stranger digimon” list covers every Digimon in the game with pictures.

Not in the anime

MedievalGallantmon has not appeared in any Digimon anime series to date. Don’t expect a dramatic Biomerge scene. If you want Gallantmon on screen, watch Digimon Tamers, where Takato and Guilmon’s Gallantmon and Crimson Mode moments are still some of the best in the franchise.

Building around MedievalGallantmon

Exact numbers vary by game, but its design and role suggest how to use it well.

In Time Stranger

Treat MedievalGallantmon like any knightly Mega in Digimon Story: a frontline fighter. Gallantmon-line Digimon in these games are usually built to deal physical damage and take hits, not to support. Use it this way:

  1. Put it up front where its durability helps the team.
  2. Cover its weaknesses with partners whose resistances fill the gaps you see in its info screen.
  3. Watch the attribute matchup. A knight with the advantage hits much harder. One at a disadvantage takes a beating.
  4. Grow its strengths. If its base stats favor Attack or Defense, push those during training instead of evening out every stat.

In the card game

In the Digimon Card Game, a Mega like MedievalGallantmon is a payoff, not an engine. You build the deck so that it can digivolve into it efficiently, then use its effects to swing the game. Pair it with the Level 5 cards its digivolution condition allows, and run enough draw and search to find it on time. Exact deck lists depend on the current format, so build from the official card text rather than an old list.

Trivia

  • Two names, one Digimon. “Dukemon” is the Japanese name for the whole Gallantmon family, so MedievalGallantmon and MedievalDukemon are the same Digimon. Some early English fan translations used the Japanese name before an official English one existed.
  • One of the biggest variant families. Gallantmon has more official alternates than most Digimon, which shows how popular Takato and Guilmon’s partnership has stayed since 2001.
  • A Royal Knight’s legacy. The original Gallantmon is a member of the Royal Knights, the order of holy knights that guards the Digital World. MedievalGallantmon inherits that knightly identity through its base form, which is why its design leans so hard on armor and weapons.
  • Born from a child’s drawing. In Digimon Tamers, Guilmon started as a sketch by Takato and came to life through his Digivice. Every Gallantmon variant goes back to that origin.
  • Gram and Aegis. Gallantmon’s lance and shield are named after legendary items from European myth: Gram, the sword of the hero Sigurd, and Aegis, the shield of Greek legend. A medieval-themed variant fits naturally with that mythic naming.
  • V-pet origins. MedievalGallantmon originated in Digimon Chronicle (2003) and the V-Pet Pendulum X 2.0, and it also appeared prominently in the Digimon D-Cyber manga. Its later appearances in the card game and Digimon Story Time Stranger brought it to a new generation of fans.

Why MedievalGallantmon matters to fans

The Gallantmon name carries weight. For a generation of Tamers fans, it stands for the partnership where a boy and his drawing became one hero. Every new variant has to live up to that, and MedievalGallantmon does it by giving the knight a new setting instead of a new story. You get Gallantmon recast as a fantasy warrior, and you can now raise one in Digimon Story Time Stranger or play it in the card game.

If you already love Gallantmon, MedievalGallantmon is an easy add to your team or deck. If you are new to the line, start with Digimon Tamers to see why this knight matters, then go find its medieval counterpart in the game.
