Beelzemon

Beelzemon (Beelzebumon) is the Mega-level Demon Lord who turned Digimon Tamers from a fun monster show into a tragedy, the gun-slinging biker who killed Leomon and then spent the rest of the series trying to atone. He is one of the Seven Great Demon Lords, a Virus-attribute powerhouse in every Digimon Story game, and a staple purple card in the Digimon Card Game. This profile covers where he came from, how he evolves in each medium, what his attacks do and how to add him to your team in Digimon Story Time Stranger.
Who is Beelzemon

In the official Digimon Reference Book, Beelzemon is a Demon Lord Digimon and a member of the Seven Great Demon Lords, where he represents the sin of Gluttony. The profile makes a point of saying he has the strength to rule the Dark Area if he ever wanted the job. He simply has no interest in a throne. He rides a giant motorcycle called Behemoth, carries a pair of shotguns named Berenjena, and prefers to fight alone rather than command an army. That loner streak is the whole character in one sentence.
Most of you met him in Digimon Tamers, where the tiny trouble-maker Impmon accepted a shortcut to power from the Deva Caturamon and warp-digivolved straight to Mega. The result was a Beelzemon who loaded Leomon’s data, broke Jeri, and then had to live with it. His later Blast Mode form, earned once his tamers Ai and Mako finally got their D-Power, is one of the great redemption images in the franchise: black wings, the Death Slinger cannon on his arm, and a Fist of the Beast King borrowed from the Digimon he destroyed.
Evolution line
Beelzemon’s line changes a lot depending on the medium, and this is where fans trip up. The anime skips two levels entirely. The Story games route him through Virus Ultimates. The card game only cares about colour and level. Each table below names its source.
Digimon Tamers (anime)
| From | To | How it happens in the show |
|---|---|---|
| Yaamon | Impmon | Impmon’s In-Training form, shown when Impmon is reborn after his digivolution sours |
| Impmon | Beelzemon | Warp digivolution granted by the Deva Caturamon on behalf of Zhuqiaomon; Impmon skips Champion and Ultimate completely |
| Beelzemon | Beelzemon Blast Mode | Mode change powered by Ai and Mako’s D-Power during the D-Reaper arc |
The show never gives Impmon a Champion or Ultimate form. That gap is why every game has to invent its own route to Beelzemon, and why no two games agree.
Digimon Story games
| Game | From | To | Conditions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth / Hacker’s Memory | Myotismon (Vamdemon) and other Virus Ultimates | Beelzemon Blast Mode | Level and stat thresholds shown on the Digivolution screen; Beelzemon is Mega, Virus, Dark element |
| Digimon Story Time Stranger | Virus Ultimates listed on the Digivolution screen | Beelzemon Blast Mode | Level plus stat thresholds; Blast Mode is a Mega-to-Mega mode change |
In both Story games Beelzemon sits in the Dark element bracket with physical attack skills, which matters because the Story series runs an attribute triangle: Vaccine beats Virus, Virus beats Data, Data beats Vaccine. A Virus Mega like Beelzemon shreds Data teams and takes extra damage from Vaccine heavy hitters such as WarGreymon and Omnimon.
Digimon Card Game
| From | To | Rule |
|---|---|---|
| Any purple Level 5 | Beelzemon (Level 6) | Standard digivolution for the printed cost; Beelzemon is a purple Lv.6 Mega card |
| Beelzemon | Beelzemon Blast Mode (Level 7) | Blast Mode cards digivolve from a Beelzemon by name |
The card game’s purple colour is built around trashing cards to the trash pile and bringing them back, and Beelzemon’s various printings lean into that, which fits a character who literally eats data.
How to get Beelzemon in Digimon Story Time Stranger
Short answer: Beelzemon is a regular Digivolution target in Digimon Story Time Stranger (2025, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC), not a DLC or event exclusive, so you reach him by raising a Virus line to Ultimate and meeting the level and stat conditions the game shows you on the Digivolution screen. Once you have Beelzemon, Blast Mode is a further Mega-level mode change on the same menu.
How to get Beelzemon in Digimon Story Time Stranger
- Convert or raise a Virus-attribute Digimon and take it up the Rookie, Champion and Ultimate ladder (Impmon is the thematically correct start).
- At Ultimate, open the Digivolution menu and look for Beelzemon as a listed target; the panel shows the exact level and stat thresholds.
- Train the stats the panel highlights until every requirement turns green, then digivolve.
- With Beelzemon on the roster, check the Digivolution menu again for Beelzemon Blast Mode and clear that second set of thresholds.
- Keep a Beelzemon entry unlocked in your Digimon list so you can re-create him later from the Digifarm or storage without starting over.
Because Beelzemon is a Dark-element Virus Mega, he is at his best against Data teams and Light-weak enemies and at his worst against Vaccine Megas. Give him a personality that raises physical attack, pair him with a healer, and let him do what he was built for: deleting things quickly.
Tamer tip
Do not rush to Blast Mode the moment it unlocks. Cycle Beelzemon back down a level or two first to farm the stat growth, then jump to Blast Mode with a bigger base. Veterans call it de-digivolution grinding, and it is why their Megas hit so much harder than yours.

Signature attacks
Beelzemon’s attacks are consistent across the Reference Book, Digimon Tamers and the games, which is rare for a character this old. Blast Mode adds two cannon techniques.
| Attack | Form | What it does | Where it appears |
|---|---|---|---|
| Double Impact | Beelzemon | Fires both Berenjena shotguns in quick succession | Reference Book, Digimon Tamers, Digimon Story games, Digimon Masters |
| Darkness Claw | Beelzemon | A claw strike that pierces the enemy with his elongated talons | Reference Book, Digimon Tamers, Digimon Story games |
| Corona Blaster | Blast Mode | Fires a blast of positrons from the Death Slinger cannon on his right arm | Reference Book, Digimon Tamers, Digimon Story games |
| Corona Destroyer | Blast Mode | Draws an inverted pentagram with the Death Slinger and fires an enormous beam through it | Reference Book, Digimon Tamers, Digimon Story games |
| Fist of the Beast King | Blast Mode (anime only) | Leomon’s own technique, usable because Beelzemon absorbed Leomon’s data | Digimon Tamers, D-Reaper arc |
Double Impact is the move everyone remembers. In Tamers the camera loves the twin shotgun draw, and in Cyber Sleuth and Time Stranger it lands as a physical Dark-element skill that chews through anything with a Data attribute.
Beelzemon Blast Mode
Blast Mode (Blast Mode in Japanese as well, written in katakana) is a mode change rather than a new level. Beelzemon stays Mega, stays Virus, stays a Demon Lord. What changes is the loadout. The Death Slinger replaces one of the Berenjena shotguns as a wrist-mounted positron cannon, the black wings unfold, and the third eye on his mask opens. In Digimon Tamers this is the form that finally cracks open the D-Reaper’s Kernel Sphere where Jeri is held. In every Story game since Digimon World Dawn and Dusk, Blast Mode is the stronger of the two forms and the one you actually want on the field.
Appearances
Beelzemon has been around since 2001 and has barely missed a game since. Here is the full run-down by medium.
Anime and movies
| Series or film | Year | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Digimon Tamers | 2001 to 2002 | Impmon’s Mega form; antagonist from his debut around episode 33, kills Leomon in episode 34 “Lionheart”, returns as an ally and gains Blast Mode during the D-Reaper arc |
| Digimon Tamers: Runaway Locomon | 2002 | Fights alongside the Tamers against the Parasimon invasion, with Ai and Mako cheering him on |
| Digimon Xros Wars (Digimon Fusion) | 2010 to 2011 | A separate Beelzemon reborn from the Bagra Army assassin Reapmon (Baalmon) after he dies protecting Taiki; joins Xros Heart and forms a close bond with Mervamon |
The Tamers version is voiced by Hiroki Takahashi in Japanese and Derek Stephen Prince in the English dub, the same actors who play Impmon, which is why the swagger carries over so well between forms. If you want to rewatch his arc, the “digimon hulu” streaming guide on this site lists where Tamers currently streams in each region.
Games
| Game | Platform | Beelzemon’s role |
|---|---|---|
| Digimon Rumble Arena | PlayStation (2001 JP, 2002 NA) | Impmon’s in-match digivolution; one of the fastest fighters in the game |
| Digimon Rumble Arena 2 | PS2, GameCube, Xbox (2004) | Impmon again digivolves into Beelzemon mid-fight |
| Digimon World DS | Nintendo DS (2006) | Obtainable Mega in the Dark species group |
| Digimon World Dawn and Dusk | Nintendo DS (2007) | Beelzemon and Beelzemon Blast Mode both obtainable |
| Digimon Masters Online | PC (2009 onward) | Impmon’s Mega form with Blast Mode as the mode change |
| Digimon World Re:Digitize / Decode | PSP, 3DS (2012, 2013) | Obtainable Mega |
| Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth and Hacker’s Memory | PS4, Vita, Switch, PC (2015 to 2019) | Mega, Virus, Dark; Blast Mode available |

| Digimon ReArise / Digimon Links | Mobile | Playable Mega with Blast Mode |
| Digimon Story Time Stranger | PS5, Xbox Series, PC (2025) | Mega, Virus, Dark; Blast Mode available |
Rumble Arena deserves a special mention. It released in Japan in late 2001 while Tamers was still airing, which means a lot of players had Beelzemon in their hands as a playable fighter before they had seen his redemption on screen. Oddly, that made him a favourite even among kids who hated him in the show.
Card game sets
Beelzemon arrived early in the Digimon Card Game with a purple Level 6 printing in Booster Set 2 “Ultimate Power” (BT2-111), and he has been reprinted and reimagined regularly since. The big ones to know:
- Booster Set 2 “Ultimate Power”: the first Beelzemon, still a reference point for how purple plays.
- Booster Set 6 “Double Diamond”: Beelzemon Blast Mode as a Level 7 chase card.
- Advanced Deck ST14 “Beelzemon”: a pre-built purple deck that goes Impmon through Beelzemon to Blast Mode out of the box, the best entry point for new players who want this exact line.
- “Digital Hazard” (EX2): the Tamers-themed set that put Impmon, Beelzemon and the rest of Takato’s generation together with Tamers-era art.
Deck lists change with every ban list and new set, so treat ST14 as a starter rather than a tournament build.
The two Beelzemon designs: Tamers and Xros Wars
A question that comes up constantly is why there are two different Beelzemon in the anime. In Digimon Tamers, Beelzemon is Impmon, a single individual with a single tragic history. In Digimon Xros Wars (Digimon Fusion), Beelzemon is a completely different person: the reborn Reapmon, with no Impmon, no Ai and Mako and no Leomon on his conscience. Same species, different Digimon.
The designs are also distinct. The Xros Wars Beelzemon is drawn with longer limbs, tighter proportions and a slightly different take on the mask, and Bandai lists him separately as the 2010 anime version in art books and card game illustrations. In-universe there is no contradiction. Digimon species have many members, the way Leomon or Agumon turn up in every series as separate characters, and the Seven Great Demon Lords label is a title held by the most powerful individual of each species rather than a guarantee that only one exists.
Female Beelzemon, Lady Beelzemon and the Beelzemon Digivice
Three searches land on this page all the time, so here are straight answers.
Female Beelzemon or Lady Beelzemon: there is no official female Beelzemon in the Digimon Reference Book, the anime, the Digimon Story games or the Digimon Card Game. Digimon as a rule have no stated biological sex, and Beelzemon is simply referred to as he in English material. The “lady” of the Seven Great Demon Lords is Lilithmon, the Lust demon lord, who is often drawn alongside Beelzemon. Everything you find under “female Beelzemon” is fan art, genderbent cosplay or custom figure work, some of it excellent, none of it canon.
Beelzemon Digivice: in Digimon Tamers the Digivice tied to Beelzemon is the D-Power (D-Ark in Japan) that appears for Impmon’s tamers, the toddler twins Ai and Mako, late in the series. Their D-Power is what lets Impmon digivolve on his own terms rather than through Caturamon’s gift, and it powers the Blast Mode change. It is the only Tamers D-Power shared by two tamers. For a deeper look at how a Tamers D-Power differs from the Adventure Digivice and the Frontier D-Tector, our explainer on how a “digivice works” walks through every model.
Beelzebumon: this is simply the Japanese romanisation of the same name. Bandai’s English localisation dropped the “bu” syllable for Tamers, and the games and card game have used Beelzemon ever since. If you see Beelzebumon on a figure box or a Japanese card, it is the same Digimon.
Trivia
- The name comes from Beelzebub, the “Lord of the Flies” of Christian demonology and the demon traditionally paired with Gluttony, which is exactly the sin the Reference Book assigns him among the Seven Great Demon Lords.
- Berenjena, the name of his shotguns, is Spanish for aubergine. The Blast Mode cannon is called the Death Slinger, which is a far more serious name for a far sillier-shaped gun.
- In Digimon Tamers, the Behemoth motorcycle was a wild machine that possessed its riders and dragged Guilmon across the Digital World before Beelzemon tamed it. The Reference Book treats Behemoth as Beelzemon’s personal bike.
- Impmon’s warp digivolution in Tamers is the only time in the series a Digimon jumps straight from Rookie to Mega without a biomerge, and the show frames it as a deal with the devil rather than an achievement.
- Beelzemon has an X-Antibody form, Beelzemon X, introduced through the Digimon Chronicle story and the Pendulum X virtual pets. It upgrades the shotguns to Berenjena SDX and adds the attack Chaos Flare.
- The Seven Great Demon Lords were formalised as a group in 2006 and later, well after Tamers aired, so the 2001 Beelzemon was retroactively promoted into the most dangerous club in the franchise.
- On the virtual pet side, Beelzemon first appeared on the Digimon Tamers D-Ark toys of 2001, which means you could raise him on your wrist in Japan while the Leomon episode was still fresh. Collectors still chase those units, and our “digimon toy” guide explains what the different D-Ark releases are worth.
- Beelzemon’s Blast Mode debut and his use of Leomon’s Fist of the Beast King were both written as the direct payoff for his crime, which is why Tamers fans rank the arc alongside the Jeri and D-Reaper storyline as the darkest material Toei put into a Digimon series.
FAQ
What level is Beelzemon?
Beelzemon is a Mega-level Digimon, called Ultimate (Kyuukyoku-tai) in Japanese material. Beelzemon Blast Mode is a mode change at the same Mega level, not a higher level. In the Digimon Card Game Beelzemon is a Level 6 card and Blast Mode is Level 7, which maps to the card game’s own numbering rather than the anime levels.
What attribute and type is Beelzemon?
Virus attribute and Demon Lord type, according to the Digimon Reference Book and every Digimon Story game. In Cyber Sleuth, Hacker’s Memory and Time Stranger he also carries the Dark element, so Light-element attackers are his natural counters alongside Vaccine-attribute Megas.
What does Impmon digivolve into?
In Digimon Tamers, Impmon warp digivolves directly into Beelzemon with no Champion or Ultimate stage shown. Games fill the gap with their own Virus lines, so always check the specific game. In the Digimon Story games Beelzemon is reached from Virus Ultimates such as Myotismon rather than straight from Impmon.
How do you get Beelzemon in Time Stranger?
Raise a Virus-attribute Digimon to Ultimate in Digimon Story Time Stranger, open the Digivolution menu, and meet the level and stat thresholds listed for Beelzemon. Blast Mode then appears as a further Mega-level target for Beelzemon on the same menu. He is part of the base game, so you do not need any add-on to unlock him.
Which of the Seven Great Demon Lords is Beelzemon?
He represents Gluttony. The other six are Lucemon (Pride), Leviamon (Envy), Daemon (Wrath), Belphemon (Sloth), Barbamon (Greed) and Lilithmon (Lust). The Reference Book notes that Beelzemon’s raw power is at the top of the group even though he refuses to rule the Dark Area.
Is there a female Beelzemon?
No. Nothing in the Reference Book, the anime, the Story games or the card game depicts a female Beelzemon. The female demon lord in the same group is Lilithmon. Female Beelzemon images online are fan creations.
Why did Beelzemon kill Leomon?
In Digimon Tamers episode 34 “Lionheart”, a freshly digivolved and power-drunk Beelzemon attacks the Tamers to prove the strength he was given. Leomon steps in to stop him and Beelzemon loads his data. The guilt from that moment drives the rest of Impmon’s story, including his return to Ai and Mako and his Blast Mode rescue attempt for Jeri.
