Digimon Story Time Stranger editions, price and where to buy
Digimon Story: Time Stranger is out now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with the Standard Edition carrying a $69.99 launch price in the US. You can buy it digitally on the PlayStation Store or on disc from Amazon, GameStop, Best Buy and Bandai Namco’s own store. Here is how the four editions differ, what each costs, and which version we think most Tamers should actually pick up.
The short answer for PS5 buyers
If you want the game and nothing else, get the Standard Edition. It includes the full story, every Digimon in the base roster and all free updates. The Deluxe and Ultimate editions only add cosmetic extras and the Season Pass on top.
Pre-orders ended when the game launched on 3 October 2025. You can no longer claim pre-order bonuses, but the game itself is widely in stock in both physical and digital form.
Prices have started to move since launch. Bandai Namco runs regular PlayStation Store sales, and physical copies on Amazon and at GameStop routinely dip below the sticker price. We cover how to spot a genuine deal further down.
What Digimon Story Time Stranger is
Time Stranger is the newest entry in the Digimon Story line, the same series that gave us Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth and Hacker’s Memory. Media.Vision developed it and Bandai Namco published it. It was announced at the PlayStation State of Play on 12 February 2025 and released worldwide on 3 October 2025, one day after the Japanese PS5 and Xbox launch on 2 October 2025.
You play an agent of ADAMAS, a special agency that handles incidents linked to the Digital World. A catastrophe strikes Tokyo, and you are thrown eight years into the past to unravel the mystery before it happens. The story combines real-world Shinjuku with the Digital World of Iliad, home to the Olympos XII, and jumps between the two worlds as the plot unfolds.
It is a turn-based RPG at heart. Battles use the familiar Vaccine, Data and Virus triangle plus elemental affinities, and you build a party of three from a roster of more than 450 Digimon. Raising is the hook: you scan wild Digimon in dungeons, convert them into partners, and push them through digivolution and de-digivolution to reach the forms you want.
If you want the full picture of how the game plays before spending anything, our “digimon story time stranger” overview breaks down the combat, the raising systems and the story structure in detail.
Editions and launch prices
Four editions launched for PS5, and the digital versions of Standard, Deluxe and Ultimate sit on the PlayStation Store. We will use US dollar launch pricing here because it is the figure most readers search for; regional prices follow the standard full-price tier for a Bandai Namco release.
| Edition | US launch price (PS5) | What it includes | Physical available? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard Edition | $69.99 | Base game | Yes (disc) |
| Deluxe Edition | $99.99 | Base game plus Deluxe Pack of in-game extras and Season Pass | Digital only |
| Ultimate Edition | $119.99 | Base game, Deluxe Pack, Season Pass | Digital only |
The Deluxe Pack is a bundle of cosmetic and convenience items for your Tamer and partners. It does not add story content, Digimon or dungeons. Treat it as a tip jar with costumes attached.
The Deluxe and Ultimate editions are the ones that change the actual game, because both include the Season Pass, which covers Bandai Namco’s post-launch paid DLC. If you already know you want every Digimon and every scenario the game ever gets, the $30 jump from Standard to Deluxe is roughly the same as buying the pass separately for $29.99 later.
Tamer tip
Everything in the Deluxe and Ultimate editions can be bought separately from the PlayStation Store after launch. Start with Standard, play the first 10 hours, then upgrade only if you are still hooked. The upgrade path never costs more than buying the bigger edition outright during a sale window.
Standard Edition: what you actually get
The Standard Edition is the complete game. Every Rookie, Champion, Ultimate and Mega in the base roster is obtainable without spending another cent, and that includes the usual fan favourites like Agumon, Gabumon, Patamon and Gatomon (Tailmon) alongside the Olympos XII who drive the story.
Free updates apply to all editions. Bandai Namco has published patch notes on the official site since launch covering bug fixes and quality-of-life tweaks, and those arrive on Standard Edition saves exactly as they do on Ultimate.
Physical Standard copies ship on a single disc for PS5. There is no download code box or “code in a case” trick to watch for here.
Deluxe and Ultimate: who they suit
Deluxe suits players who like dressing up their Tamer and want a small head start on supplies. The extras are nice to have and nothing more.
Ultimate suits long-haul fans. Digimon Story games historically get meaningful DLC, and Cyber Sleuth’s extra Digimon and scenarios were worth owning. If you expect Time Stranger to follow the same pattern, the Season Pass is the only edition bonus with real long-term value.
Platforms: PS5, Xbox and PC
| Platform | Digital store | Physical disc | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 | PlayStation Store | Yes | Most widely stocked physical version |
| Xbox Series X and S | Microsoft Store | Yes (Series X disc) | Same edition lineup as PS5 |
| PC | Steam | No | Standard, Deluxe and Ultimate all listed |
| Nintendo Switch / Switch 2 | Not available | No | No version has been announced |
The PS5 version is the one we recommend to most console players. It is the easiest to find on shelves, it supports fast loading between Tokyo and the Digital World, and the DualSense works fine for a turn-based game where you never need twitch inputs.
Xbox owners get an identical feature set and identical pricing. Digimon Story Time Stranger Xbox pre-orders ran on the Microsoft Store in parallel with PlayStation, and the post-launch update cadence has matched across both consoles.
There is no Switch version. Cyber Sleuth eventually got its Complete Edition on Switch years later, so a port is not impossible, but nothing has been announced and we would not buy a Switch 2 on the expectation.
Where to buy Digimon Story Time Stranger on PS5

| PlayStation Store | Digital | Standard, Deluxe, Ultimate | Instant, frequent sales, easy upgrade path |
| Amazon | Physical (Standard) | Standard | Fast shipping, price often below MSRP |

PlayStation Store
The Digimon Story Time Stranger PlayStation 5 store listing is the simplest way to buy. Search the store on your console or in the PlayStation app, pick an edition, and the download starts immediately. Preloading was available during the pre-order window, and today the download simply begins at purchase.
The store page shows the current price next to any discount, and it is the first place a sale appears. Bandai Namco’s digital sales usually run across the whole Digimon catalogue at once, so when Cyber Sleuth is discounted, check Time Stranger too.
How to buy Time Stranger on the PlayStation Store
- Open the PlayStation Store on your PS5 or the PlayStation app.
- Search “Digimon Story Time Stranger”.
- Choose Standard, Deluxe or Ultimate from the edition selector.
- Check the price line for an active discount and the sale end date.
- Add to cart, confirm payment and the download starts automatically.
Digital purchases are tied to your account, which means your partner Digimon save follows you to any PS5 you sign into. That matters if you share a console with another Tamer in the house and plan to raise separate teams.
Amazon
Digimon Story Time Stranger PS5 on Amazon is a physical Standard Edition disc sold by Amazon itself and by third-party sellers. Buy from Amazon as the seller when you can. Third-party listings sometimes charge above sticker price for a game that is not actually scarce.
Amazon’s price on Bandai Namco titles tends to drift downward within a few months of release. If the listing shows the full launch price, wait a couple of weeks or set a price alert. The disc is not going anywhere.
Prime shipping applies to Amazon-sold copies, and launch-week buyers got release-day delivery in most of the US.
GameStop
Digimon Story Time Stranger PS5 at GameStop covers new physical copies, pre-owned copies once trade-ins came through, and digital codes. GameStop ran the pre-order at launch and offered the standard in-game pre-order bonus to customers who reserved it.
GameStop Pro membership gives you monthly reward credit and an extra bump on trade-in value. If you plan to trade in Cyber Sleuth or another finished game towards Time Stranger, Pro makes the maths slightly better. It is not worth joining for this one purchase alone.
Pre-owned Time Stranger copies are the cheapest legitimate way to get the disc. Physical copies carry no one-time-use code, so a pre-owned disc gives you the full game.
Bandai Namco Store
Bandai Namco’s own store sold the pre-order with its exclusive bundle options and still carries the Standard Edition. It is the place to look if you want the game packaged with merchandise, though shipping is slower than Amazon and the game-only price does not beat the big retailers.
Pre-orders: what happened and what still applies
Pre-orders for Digimon Story Time Stranger opened in spring 2025 and ran until the 3 October 2025 release. All three editions could be reserved on PS5, Xbox and Steam, and physical Standard pre-orders were available at the usual retailers.
The pre-order bonus was a small set of in-game items delivered as DLC. It was tied to the pre-order itself, not to a specific edition, so Standard Edition pre-order customers received the same bonus as Ultimate buyers.
That bonus is gone now. If you see a current listing promising pre-order bonuses, it is either an old page or a seller passing along an unused code. Neither is worth paying a premium for. The items were early-game supplies and nothing that affects your Digimon roster.
What still applies is the edition structure. Standard, Deluxe and Ultimate are permanent SKUs on the PlayStation Store, and the Season Pass can be bought on its own.
Physical or digital on PS5?
We lean digital for this particular game. Time Stranger is a long RPG you dip into over weeks, and having it on the internal drive without a disc swap suits that rhythm. Digital also gets the deepest discounts because the PlayStation Store sales are percentage based rather than tied to retailer stock.
Physical wins on resale and lending. A disc holds value and can go to a friend when you finish. It also sidesteps account-sharing restrictions entirely. If you buy a lot of pre-owned games, physical is the frugal route.
One detail worth knowing: the PS5 disc is a full install. You still need the disc in the drive to launch the game, but the install size on the drive is identical to the digital version.
How much game you get for the money
Time Stranger is big. Most players report the main story running somewhere around 40 to 50 hours, with completion runs that chase every Digimon and side case pushing well past 80. At $69.99 that is a strong hours-per-dollar return even before any sale.
The structure helps. The Tokyo chapters play out as a detective-flavoured mystery in the Cyber Sleuth tradition, with cases to investigate and NPCs to question. The Digital World chapters are the dungeon crawling half, where you scan Digimon, fight your way through themed areas and earn the materials that feed your raising.
Combat is turn-based with a clear tempo. Each Digimon acts on a turn order bar, and the attribute triangle plus elements decides whether a hit is weak or super effective. Buffs, debuffs and the new Cross Arts team moves mean a well-formed party of three can punch above its level, which is exactly the kind of system that rewards experimentation.
If you want a sense of how the raising loop feels, think of the Digimon World and Cyber Sleuth games merged. Stats grow through battle, personality shapes growth, and digivolution gates open when a partner meets the level, stat and sometimes item requirements for a target form. Our “digimon evolution” explainer covers how those rules differ between the anime and the games if you are new to the idea.
A featured Rookie: Gabumon

Gabumon shares the key art with the protagonist, and it is one of the first Rookies most Tamers raise in Time Stranger. It is also a good test case for how the game treats classic lines versus the anime.
In the anime, Gabumon follows the line everyone knows from Digimon Adventure: Gabumon to Garurumon to WereGarurumon to MetalGarurumon, with the Omnimon (Omegamon) DNA digivolution alongside WarGreymon. That line is a fixed story beat in the show.
| Medium | Champion | Ultimate | Mega |
|---|---|---|---|
| Digimon Adventure (anime) | Garurumon | WereGarurumon | MetalGarurumon |
| Digimon Story games (general) | Stat and level gated, multiple options | Multiple options | Multiple options |
In the Digimon Story games, including Time Stranger, Gabumon is not locked to that path. Each evolution has its own level, stat and sometimes ability requirements, and Gabumon has several Champion options rather than one. The exact branches and thresholds in Time Stranger are specific to the game, so treat the anime line as a guide to the “classic” route rather than a guarantee of what the menu shows you.
Gabumon’s signature attack across the anime and games is Blue Blaster, the fire breath it uses from the very first Adventure episode. In the games it is a reliable single-target elemental move for the early chapters.
What free updates mean for buyers
Bandai Namco has released free updates for Time Stranger since launch, and patch notes are posted on the official site. These have focused on bug fixes, balance adjustments and quality-of-life changes rather than new paid content.
The practical point for buyers: a Standard Edition copy bought today plays the same patched game as a day-one Ultimate Edition. There is no “launch version” penalty for waiting, and physical copies update on first connection.
Paid DLC lives under the Season Pass. Anything described as “additional scenario” or “new Digimon” in a store listing is pass content, not a free update.
Spotting a real sale
Launch price was $69.99, and most retailers held that for the first few weeks. Since then, three patterns have emerged.
First, PlayStation Store sales. Bandai Namco discounts its catalogue in rotation, and Time Stranger has already appeared in those. The store page shows the discount percentage and the end date.
Second, physical price drops. Amazon and Best Buy move physical Standard Edition prices in response to each other, and a drop at one usually shows up at the other within days. GameStop pre-owned pricing sits below both.
Third, bundle pricing. The Bandai Namco Store occasionally pairs the game with Digimon merchandise or with the Cyber Sleuth Complete Edition. Those are only worth it if you actually want the extras.
A quick rule: for a game released in October 2025, any Standard Edition price under $50 is a genuine deal, and anything under $40 is a buy-now price.
Tamer tip
If you own Cyber Sleuth or Hacker’s Memory digitally, check the PlayStation Store “games you might like” row after a Bandai Namco sale drops. Time Stranger discounts often surface there a day before they show up on the main deals page.
How Time Stranger fits the wider series
Time Stranger is the seventh game in the Digimon Story series, following earlier Western releases such as Digimon World DS, Digimon World Dawn and Dusk, Cyber Sleuth and Hacker’s Memory, and it is the first built natively for the PS5 generation. The team at Media.Vision kept the detective-mystery framing from Sleuth, swapped the hacker underworld for a government agency, and upgraded the Digital World from flat zones into bigger, more detailed dungeon areas.
Fans coming from the anime will recognise a lot. The roster leans on Adventure-era classics as much as on newer designs, and the Olympos XII have been a fan-favourite group ever since their card game and reference book appearances.
Players new to the whole “digimon franchise” can start here without playing anything earlier. The story is self-contained and the tutorials explain scanning, digivolution and the attribute triangle from scratch.
If the game sends you back to the shows, our “digimon hulu” guide lists where each series streams right now. And if the Olympos XII catch your eye, several of them have strong decks in the “digimon tcg“, which is a very different way to spend money on the same characters.
Our recommendation by buyer type
New to Digimon games, PS5 owner: Standard Edition, digital, bought during a PlayStation Store sale. Upgrade to the Season Pass later if the story grabs you.
Series veteran who finished both Cyber Sleuth games: Ultimate Edition at launch price was the right call, and today the Standard plus a discounted Season Pass gets you the same package for less.
Budget buyer: Pre-owned physical Standard Edition from GameStop, or an Amazon price drop. The disc is the complete game.
Collector: Physical Standard Edition from any retailer, plus the Bandai Namco Store bundle if the merchandise appeals. Deluxe and Ultimate are digital only, so there is no collector’s box to chase.
FAQ
Is there a sale for Digimon Story Time Stranger on PS5?
Sales come and go. Bandai Namco includes Time Stranger in its rotating PlayStation Store discounts, and physical copies at Amazon and GameStop have already dropped below the $69.99 launch price. Check the PlayStation Store listing first, since that is where a discount shows up with an end date, then compare against Amazon’s current physical price before buying.
Is Digimon Story Time Stranger available on the PlayStation Store?
Yes. The Standard, Deluxe and Ultimate editions are all listed on the PlayStation Store for PS5, and the Season Pass and Deluxe Pack can be bought separately. Search the store on your console or in the PlayStation app and the edition selector appears on the main listing.
How much does Digimon Story: Time Stranger cost on PS5?
The Standard Edition launched at $69.99 in the US. The Deluxe Edition launched at $99.99 and the Ultimate Edition at $119.99, and both include the Season Pass. Current prices vary with sales, and physical Standard copies regularly sell for less than the digital launch price.
How many hours is Digimon Story Stranger?
Plan on around 40 to 50 hours for the main story at a normal pace. Completing the Digimon roster, every side case and the post-game content pushes most players well past 80 hours. It is one of the longer RPGs Bandai Namco has released on PS5, so a sale price makes it exceptional value.
Can I still pre-order Digimon Story Time Stranger?
No. Pre-orders closed at the 3 October 2025 release and the pre-order bonus items are no longer offered. Any listing still advertising a pre-order bonus is out of date. You simply buy the game now, and every edition is in stock digitally and the Standard Edition physically.
Is Time Stranger on Xbox and PC too?
Yes. It is available on Xbox Series X|S through the Microsoft Store and on disc, and on PC through Steam. The edition lineup and pricing match the PS5 version on all platforms. There is no Switch or Switch 2 version.
