WarGreymon Digimon file

WarGreymon is the Mega form of Tai’s Agumon in Digimon Adventure, a Vaccine-attribute Dragon Man who carries Dramon-slaying gauntlets and the Brave Shield on his back. Among all the dragons in the franchise, this is the one most fans picture when they hear the word Mega. WarGreymon first warp digivolved on screen in Digimon Adventure episode 39 during the VenomMyotismon fight, and from that point he was the Digidestined’s heavy hitter against the Dark Masters. The Japanese name is identical, so there is no alternate reading to learn here, though the Japanese level is called Ultimate (究極体) where we say Mega.

The design is what sells him. The Dramon Killers on his arms (Dramon Destroyers in the English dub) are armaments made specifically to slaughter Dramon-type Digimon, and because WarGreymon himself belongs to that family, the Reference Book calls them a double-edged sword. The Brave Shield on his back carries the Crest of Courage, which links him directly to Tai (Taichi Yagami) and the “Butter-Fly” era of the show. He is described as the strongest dragon-type Digimon, with speed and jumping power far beyond what the armour suggests.

Evolution line

Lines change between media, so we split them. Anything missing below is something we could not confirm, not something we forgot.

Anime (Digimon Adventure, Adventure 02, tri., Kizuna, Adventure: 2020)

From To How it happens on screen
Botamon → Koromon → Agumon Greymon → MetalGreymon Normal digivolution and Crest of Courage digivolution in Digimon Adventure
Agumon (skipping Champion and Ultimate) WarGreymon Warp Digivolve, first seen in Adventure episode 39 against VenomMyotismon
WarGreymon + MetalGarurumon Omnimon (Omegamon) DNA Digivolution in the movie Our War Game! (2000), then again in Adventure 02, tri. and the 2020 reboot
WarGreymon Agumon Bond of Bravery A one-off form in Last Evolution Kizuna (2020), tied to Tai rather than to the standard line

The Warp Digivolve shortcut is a big part of why fans ask how a “digivice works” across the series. In Adventure the Digivice plus the Crest pushed Agumon straight to Mega without stopping at Greymon or MetalGreymon.

Digimon Story games

Game Evolves from Conditions for WarGreymon Evolves to
Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth (PS4, Vita, Complete Edition) MetalGreymon Level 55, ATK 160, DEF 130, HP 1700, ABI 20, CAM 80% Omnimon (needs a high level and balanced stats across the board)
Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth Hacker’s Memory MetalGreymon Same Mega-tier structure as Cyber Sleuth Omnimon
Digimon Story: Time Stranger (PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, 2025) The Greymon line via MetalGreymon Level and stat thresholds shown on the in-game Digivolution screen Omnimon

In Cyber Sleuth the real walls are ATK 160 and ABI 20, because MetalGreymon’s base attack sits below that at the levels most players reach before trying, and ABI only climbs through digivolving and de-digivolving. Feed ATK-boosting items or push the level higher rather than farming forever.

How to get WarGreymon in Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth

  1. Raise an Agumon through Greymon to MetalGreymon (the Vaccine one, not the Virus Blue version).
  2. Level MetalGreymon to 55 and keep CAM at 80% or higher.
  3. Get ATK to 160, DEF to 130 and HP to 1700 with levels, training and stat items, and make sure ABI is at least 20.
  4. Open the Digivolution menu at a terminal and pick WarGreymon.

Time Stranger reuses the same family tree, and because the roster passed 450 Digimon, WarGreymon has plenty of neighbours to branch into. Our “digimon story time stranger” overview explains the version differences, and the “time stranger digimon” list shows the whole Greymon family side by side.

Digimon Card Game (2020 series)

Card Set Level Digivolves from Leads to
WarGreymon ST1-11 Starter Deck: Gaia Red (ST-1) Lv.6 A Lv.5 red Digimon such as MetalGreymon ST1-10 Omnimon Lv.7
WarGreymon BT1-025 New Evolution (BT-01) Lv.6 A Lv.5 red Digimon Omnimon Lv.7
Omnimon BT5-086 Battle of Omni (BT-05) Lv.7 DNA Digivolves from WarGreymon plus MetalGarurumon Top of the line

The card game treats him as a red Lv.6 with Vaccine and Dragonkin traits, and his main job in most decks has always been to set up Omnimon.

Signature attacks

Attack names differ between the Japanese original and the English dub, and the games mostly use the Japanese set.

English dub Japanese What it does
Terra Force Gaia Force Gathers energy from the atmosphere into a super-heated sphere and hurls it down. The finisher on VenomMyotismon and Piedmon in Adventure
Great Tornado Brave Tornado Spins at high speed to become a drill. Used to bore straight through MetalSeadramon in Adventure
Mega Claw (Dramon Killer slash) Close-range strikes with the gauntlets, famously used to cut Machinedramon in half

Gaia Force is the move every game gives him as a signature skill. In Cyber Sleuth it is his inherited special, and in the card game Terra Force shows up as flavour on his attack art.

Appearances

Anime and movies

  • Digimon Adventure (1999 to 2000): debuts in episode 39, then carries the Dark Masters arc against MetalSeadramon, Machinedramon and Piedmon.
  • Our War Game! (2000): fuses with MetalGarurumon into Omnimon to stop Diaboromon.
  • Digimon Adventure 02 (2000 to 2001): the duel with BlackWarGreymon, a Virus copy built by Arukenimon from Control Spires, is a season highlight.
  • Digimon Adventure tri. (2015 to 2018): WarGreymon returns in the six films, with Omnimon and later Omnimon Merciful Mode.
  • Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna (2020): appears before the Agumon Bond of Bravery scene.
  • Digimon Adventure: (2020 reboot): reached much earlier in the story than in 1999, with WarGreymon finishing DoneDevimon.
  • Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning (2023): the Adventure cast is back, so the Greymon line appears again.

Games

WarGreymon has been playable or raisable in most of the franchise’s catalogue:

  • Digimon World 2, Digimon World 3, Digimon World Re:Digitize and Digimon World: Next Order (from MetalGreymon in the raising games).
  • Digimon Rumble Arena (fuses with MetalGarurumon into Omnimon) and Digimon Rumble Arena 2.
  • Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth, Hacker’s Memory and the Complete Edition on Switch and PC.
  • Digimon Survive (2022), where Takuma’s Agumon reaches him in the Greymon route.
  • Digimon Masters Online, where the Agumon line still draws new players.
  • Digimon Story: Time Stranger (2025), the newest entry and the one most searched right now.

Card game

Beyond ST1-11 and BT1-025, he keeps returning in red starter products and alternate-art promos, and his X-Antibody form has its own cards in the later X Record era. BlackWarGreymon also exists as a separate black card line, so check the colour before you build.

Trivia

  • The Reference Book flavour text says the Dramon Killers “slaughter Dramon-types”, and the irony that WarGreymon is Dramon himself is baked into the official profile.
  • Chika Sakamoto voices Agumon and every form up to WarGreymon in Japanese, which is why the Mega sounds like a deeper Agumon rather than a new character.
  • BlackWarGreymon, the Adventure 02 counterpart, is a Virus-attribute version of the same body and the reason the “Vaccine vs Virus” question comes up on every forum thread about him.
  • WarGreymon X (the X-Antibody form) sharpens the gauntlets and shield and is a standard branch in Digimon World: Next Order.
  • Omnimon’s left arm is literally WarGreymon’s head and Brave Shield, so every Omnimon card, toy and figure is partly a WarGreymon collectible. Our “digimon toy” piece covers the figure lines worth hunting.

Tamer tip

In Cyber Sleuth, convert your MetalGreymon to WarGreymon the moment the ATK 160 check passes, then keep levelling as WarGreymon rather than farming extra levels first. The Mega’s stat growth per level is higher, so you hit Omnimon’s requirements faster this way.

FAQ

What level is WarGreymon?

Mega in English media. The Japanese term for the same tier is Ultimate (Kyuukyokutai), which trips up new fans because the English “Ultimate” is the tier below.

Is WarGreymon a Vaccine or Virus Digimon?

Vaccine in the anime, the Reference Book, the Digimon Story games and the card game. The Virus version is BlackWarGreymon, a separate Digimon.

How do you get WarGreymon in Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth?

Digivolve MetalGreymon at level 55 with ATK 160, DEF 130, HP 1700, ABI 20 and CAM 80% or higher. The same approach works in Hacker’s Memory.

Is WarGreymon in Digimon Story: Time Stranger?

Yes. He sits at the Mega tier of the Greymon family with Omnimon above him, and the exact unlock numbers are listed on the game’s Digivolution screen. If you are weighing whether the extra content is worth it, see our breakdown of “time stranger dlc content“.

What is the difference between Terra Force and Gaia Force?

They are the same attack. Terra Force is the English dub name, Gaia Force is the Japanese original and the name most games use.

Can WarGreymon become Omnimon on his own?

Not in the anime, where DNA Digivolution with MetalGarurumon is required. In Cyber Sleuth and the Digimon Story games, Omnimon is a normal digivolution target from WarGreymon once the level and stat conditions are met.
